Sunset at Mt. Doom.
Sunrise.
Mt. Ruapehu.
I imagine this is what being on the moon might be like.
Back at the Emerald Lakes.
Red crater again.
Caryl's in the green jacket.
I was surprised to see a happy little bird!
A detour to the submit of Mt. Ngaurahoe. After nearly two days of hiking we were exhausted! And the fog/clouds made the visibility minimal. About 3/4 of the way up we decided to turn back - it was so steep and we had many hours of hiking still ahead of us.
The way down is about a 45 degree decline - you literally ski down the ash and gravel on your soles and pray you don't hit any large rocks. On the plus side, it's much faster than the ascent!
View from as high up as we got.
Climbing back down.
Amazing rocks!
Back at the starting point!
