Fox Glacier

The Fox Glacier starts only 300 meters above sea level and is about 13 kilometers long (though it is currently receding).

There have been a few mishaps on or around the glacier.  The most interesting, I thought, was an incident in 2008 when "three men were injured in a plane crash at Fox Glacier after pilot mistook it for Franz Josef, which is much longer."  How do you not know which glacier you're landing on!?  There must be more to this story.
