There were a couple of things to see before the world famous Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers.
Like the Thunder Creek Falls on the Haast River (28 meters tall).
Or the Roaring Billy Falls.
And the Swamp Forest and Ship Creek, who's dark, inky color is a result of tannin and humic acid leeching into the waters from the decaying vegetation of the swamplands.
