Forgotten World Highway, day 2

Here's a view from our campsite - there used to be a town in the field, all the houses are now gone.

The campground owner recommended we go on a walk - there was a cup under a water stream, not sure who left it there.

It was a lovely walk.

The amphitheater.

We were given carrots to feed to the donkey - she was the only animal in the field who wouldn't run from us.

And she loves carrots!

After leaving the campground, we started on the road again.

Mt. Damper Falls walk.

Mt. Damper Falls, 74m tall.

Joshua Morgan's grave - he was a pioneer surveyor who blazed the trail for the road through the Tangarakau gorge.  He fell ill on the road and died at the age of 35.  He was buried where he died.  Almost 60 years later his widow, Anne, died in Auckland.  She is buried with him.
