We continued down south along the scenic highway, investigating everything in our path.
First was Nugget Point, a lighthouse and lookout on the eastern shore.
There be nuggets.
Sadly, we found a dead cow on the beach. I don't know how it got there - but there are many dairy farms in the area and it gets very cold at night. I guess this one wandered off at night and couldn't find it's way back. Poor thing.
Next we stopped at the Purakaunui Falls walk (10 minutes from the road).
Caryl broke the golden rule and ventured off the designated path for a photo.
Next stop: Florence Hill lookout.
A little south of Papatowai we found the Tautuku beach and Isas Cave - almost totally deserted.
View from inside the cave.
Of course, plenty of sheep around the way. We've nicknamed them fleeces, like fleece and feces, because they're often covered in poo. Think about that next time you put on your favorite woolen sweater.
LiquorLand, a must-see in any town.
I think they don't want you to steal dog diamonds...
And the breathtaking Hatch's Hill viewpoint platform!
And here's the actual view.
