The next morning we started our day with a less popular three hour walk up to the Red Tarns and then through the Governor's Bush. (We learned that a tarn is a small mountain lake.)
The beginning of the walk.
At the top!
Caryl resting after the two hour up hill climb.
But I think it was worth it!
The tarn has an interesting habitat - because nutrients are scarce in the alpine climate, the small plants along the shore have adapted to catch and consume insects to supplement their diet. Small, sticky hairs trap the insects and enzymes digest them.
A view of the parking lot where we started the day.
Proof that I made it to the top. :)
