Oamaru Public Gardens

On our last day in Oamaru, before we headed south towards Dunedin, we stopped by the Public Gardens, complete with an aviary and lots of seagulls.

Pretty parakeets!

Crazy plants!

Dragonflies!

Chinese bridges!

Butterflies and pretty flowers.

Nieśmiertelniki - aka strawflower or everlasting, are one of my favorite flowers.  They are dry to the touch and can be kept almost indefinitely.  They are native to Australia, but have been cultivated in Germany (and Poland as well) since the 1850s.

Downtown Oamaru - made of its famous limestone.

Limestone everywhere!
