Hokonui Forest Track near Invercargill

We spent the night in this isolated and beautiful campsite.  The next morning we took advantage of the nearby hike.

Apparently someone had decided to use the sign as target practice.

The walk was enchanting.

If I were filming a movie about hobbits, I would choose New Zealand as the location, too.

Tranquil.

Cute little mushrooms.

Lancewood/Horoeka tree native to New Zealand.  It technically doesn't have any leaves, just flat branches.

Vines.

So many ferns here!

And strange bark.

Mosses and lichens grow almost everywhere.
