Driving south of Dunedin

On our drive south we stopped at a camping location near a beach called Ocean View.  We had a long walk in the morning.

Kaka Point Scenic Reserve.

I love this plant!

Kaka Point bush walk - Kereru, or New Zealand pigeon.

Bushy.

Fantail.

Caryl.

A bird with a beautiful song, though I have so far between unable to identify them.  Their chirp sounds a bit like a cell phone ring time.

Historic Railway Tunnel walk.

Tunnel under MacDonald's saddle took over two years to complete.

We met some interesting Aussies.  They attempted to do the walk without any flashlights - we offered to share ours.  The man is mostly blind, which didn't stop him from taking tons of pictures and wandering off the path 'to get the best shots' - his poor wife was unable to stop him.  They were very sweet though, and it was nice to have some company.  Especially since we found this hike at the end of the day after we were denied a camp spot in a popular camp ground - a German couple raced us on the road and pulled in after us, then pushed past me to get to the reception first. We had no idea what was going on until we realized there were no spots left.  Jerks.
