Ta Prohm, Cambodia

Ta Prohm is one of the most visited temples in the area for one reason - it was replicated and featured prominently in the Tomb Raider movie.  It is also a lovely complex with many trees and vegetation, though it is maintained and protected against tourists.

Gate to the complex.

The temples were mostly built of volcanic rock with a carved sandstone layer on the outside.  Here you can see the volcanic rock - more porous and reddish than the smooth, grey sandstone.

In 2013 money was donated to set up roped platforms around some of the more famous tree areas.  I think  they ruin the atmosphere a bit.

Finally figuring out the camera self-timer after I decided we don't have nearly enough pictures together...

More temple ruins.

Huge roots!

Carved detail.

I think the tree is winning this fight!

Famous tree featured in Tomb Raider.

Though I don't know why they chose these temples for the movie, since they aren't tombs!

Nice light right before sunset.

Fewer people at the back of the temple, gave us an opportunity to be silly.

Stone carving.
