Next we stopped by Ta Nei, another 12th century temple. The unique thing about this one is it's location - it stands at the end of a dirt road in the jungle. Because it's fairly remote, fewer tourists come to this one. It has not been restored and had been left largely like it was found - it gives an idea of how the other temples looked before the extensive restoration projects.
Main entrance to Ta Nei.
Inside - lots of fallen rocks.
And trees everywhere.
Ancient relief carvings lie on the ground.
Sacrificial alter lies askew.
While I absolutely understand the need to restore and preserve the temples, there's something magical about walking around, alone, through these once great structures that now lie in ruins.
