On our third and final day we drove around to 4 new temples and ended with a sunset at Angkor Wat. We started the day at Preah Khan, one of the smaller temples outside of Angkor Wat. It was built in the 12th century for King Jayavarman VII. Like the famous nearby "Tomb Raider" temple of Ta Prohm, Preah Khan has been left largely unrestored, with numerous trees and other vegetation growing among the ruins.
Here is a map of the four new temples we saw.
Main entrance gate to Preah Khan complex.
Main facade of Preah Khan.
Inside the main gate.
Interesting carvings.
Trees growing through the structures!
More ruins.
Caryl holding our sweet tea :)
Partially restored and reorganized section.
Cool arch.
"Elephant trunk" tree.
Another awesome tree growing through a building.
Columns.
Fake window.
Sometimes it was a little hard to walk around because of fallen rocks.
Sacrificial alter - I believe they only sacrificed holy water and sacred milk.
