Isalo, day 2 part 1

During our second day in Isalo National Park we hiked along the mountain crest and then to the natural pool (next post).  Although it was quite hot, the views from the top of the mountain were well worth the climb.

Picture 2:  Along the way we saw a tiny red carnivorous plant - it catches bugs with the sticky substance it secretes.

Pictures 3-5:  We later found some real stick insects - I have added red arrows to show where they are, because even though I saw these creatures in real life, it is still hard for me to spot them in the pictures - their ability to camouflage is really incredible!

Further down there's a picture of an abandoned burial casket.  The Malagasy Bara tribe first buries their dead in a temporary tomb, and then after some time (months or years) move the remains to a permanent burial place.  The temporary casket was used, but the remains have since been moved.

And of course, some ring tailed lemurs!
