We also spent one day walking around Tana, exploring the city on our own.
Picture 1 - There's a heart shaped lake downtown with a monument in the center. We wanted to check it out, but there were men standing and blocking the path requesting an entrance fee (obviously not official guides). We got a bad vibe, so we left. Later we learned that the end of the pier is a hot spot for pickpockets and thieves, so it's probably good we didn't go. We still had a nice walk around the lake though.
Picture 2 - on one side of the lake there's a row of barber shops - they look like shacks, but each one has a smiling barber ready to cut your hair or beard.
Picture 3 - downtown Tana and it's "Hollywood" sign.
Picture 4 - the Presidential Office. You're not supposed to take pictures of this building (of course I did and was gently asked to put my camera away).
Pictures 5 & 6 - views of Tana from the nearby hills - stadium and the heart-shaped lake.
Pictures 7 & 8 - Cathedral.
Pictures 9-13 - we took a tour of the Rova, the old royal palace, including tombs of the royals and a photo with our guide. Interestingly, they used egg whites as cement on the outside walls of the palace.
